Creativity! That is what is regularly expressed as students, especially the young men, use their desks and their pencils to improvise beats While my students aren't able to participate in an actual drumline or a band, what I can do is start introducing them to transferring the reading of music notes and the students' need to creatively improvise their "beat(s)" into bucket drumming. A win-win! I need to collaborate with the state-required music curriculum to include opportunities for students to incorporate their natural music abilities and students' interests. Through this experience, enough students will express an interest in drumming, in having a drumline, and eventually a school band. From students' interest, justification can be made to request instruments for a school drumline and to continue bucket drumming as part of the music curriculum to expose all students to drumming.
