The focus of this project is on our school tradition of holding a yearly science fair. It is a unique opportunity for students to take their education into their own hands and investigate something that they find interesting in the world. A science fair project also connects perfectly with many of the NGSS Science and Engineering practices. The materials purchased through this project would spark student's creativity by giving them access to reliable scientific equipment to serve as a launching point for their projects. Although students already use their ingenuity to devise and measure a wide range of topics, there are significant limitations when it comes to investigating microorganisms since they require controlled environments to grow dependably and safely. Additionally, we study the states of matter in the 8th grade core standards, and liquid nitrogen gives access to exciting projects and experiments (overseen by a responsible adult!) that would otherwise be out of reach. We hope to open doors for our students to explore new and incredible areas of science as we swing back into our first year back with an in-person science fair with the community!
