I have a classroom library full of books that I have spent years building--the only problem is the vast majority of these books appeal to students on a 5th grade or higher reading level. I want my students who read below grade level to have a wide array of chapter books from which to choose, ones on their level that will engage their interests. So many of my students don't have a vehicle, so getting to the library to check out books is not an option. Our school used to have a visit from the bookmobile, but that has been halted due to Covid. My goal is for every student who enters my room to have a book that excites them and encourages to read just one more page. These books will be read during silent reading in class and taken home to read nightly. Students get to choose their own books. We take class time every single day to read, talk about what we read, share what books we're loving, and give recommendations about what books others would like.
