Students sometimes come to school carrying heavy emotional burdens from outside experiences. When students come to school upset, angry, sad, worried, or overly excited, their academic success is at-risk. Having a space where students can learn to regulate their emotions is a great support to student education. Peace Corners are a part of trauma-informed practice which many schools have moved towards implementing. The Peace Corner space will include the items listed as well as worksheets and guides for recognizing emotions, and learning how to cope with those emotions. Having a space in the classroom for emotional regulation not only reinforces the importance of mental health in learning but also allows students to learn these skills without leaving the classroom and missing vital instruction time. Thank you so much for taking the time to look at this project! I hope you will consider supporting this effort to help students with their emotional & social well-being and academic success.
