My students attend school on a rotating A/ B day schedule, which means that they spend half their week doing work asynchronously at home. The other half, they spend in pod classroom, which means they stay in the same room all day. This is hard for my students, who are very energetic and love to go outside. I am asking for a set of class books because I want students to be able to engage in the class read at home and at school without needing to sit in front of their computer screens.
Spring is fast approaching in New England and I want my students to experience what it is like to read outside, without a need for wi-fi and away from their desks at home and at school. Our school has a great outdoor space with a garden and a small path for walking. If we have a class set of books for our class read, The Phantom Tollbooth, which we have been reading via a free PDF online, we can take trips outside with our books to read. I think this will also allow students at home to more easily engage in the class reading.
Additionally, about half my class is made up of multilingual learners who highly benefit from being able to circle new words in their reading and jot down definitions in the margins of their books.
