These books will add much needed diversity and updated information to our existing biography section in the library. Each year, every 2nd and 3rd grader student completes a biography project. These projects are an important part of their grade level curriculum and students are excited to select a person of interest to learn more about. I want to provide a more diverse and current selection of resources for students to choose from. Right now, our selection is very limited with most of the biographies being published at least 20 years ago and many cultures and races not being fairly represented. The addition of these books will allow students to have more options in learning about people from varied cultures and backgrounds. These books will also benefit all grade levels through weekly library read alouds and book talks as students learn about brave men and women who overcame prejudice and difficult circumstances to accomplish great things.
