These books will support our belief that every child deserves the opportunity to be educated in a way that prepares them for college if they choose to attend. College can be an abstract idea for students at the elementary level. Powerful symbolism in our classrooms and around our campus help to make the idea of college more tangible for students. Just like when we see a picture of the Eiffel Tower and want to travel to Paris, seeing college symbolism gets students excited about college. Every classroom has adopted a university and has a bulletin board which features that college. College pennants, banners and flags are visible in classrooms and around campus. Each year, we celebrate with an “I’m Going to College" parade. These books will help provide students the opportunity to consider, prepare and learn more about college.
