All of my students learn best through tactile play and engagement of their senses. This mud kitchen will provide an opportunity to practice applying the scientific method steps-observing, predicting, questioning, experimenting, and communicating. The mud kitchen will be a central focus for our playground where social skills such as taking turns, sharing, and trading can be learned for conflict resolution. Students will be able to explore the properties of water and soil while using math skills such as comparison, measurement, and counting. Many of my students are lacking language development and the mud kitchen will be a hub for expanding vocabulary and conversational skills. The tools used in the mud kitchen will promote the development of fine motor skills by strengthening the wrist and fingers which will enable successful use of writing and art tools in the future. My students are receiving a great deal of screen time at home, and the mud kitchen provides old fashioned, outdoor learning and memories that will last a lifetime.
