An augmented reality (AR) sandbox is a 3D, interactive, dynamic educational tool to help understand mapping, topography, watersheds, natural hazards, and more! This tool uses a motion sensor and specialized computer software to map contour lines (lines of equal elevation) onto the sand that adjust to the elevation levels of the sand in real-time. It's a fun, and addictive, way to learn through play for young and the young at heart. The augmented reality sandbox will help students learn many different things in not only my science classroom but in history class as well. Sometimes it is hard for students to picture stuff they have not experienced or if the land forms are not around them but this is a way to grasp that knowledge and help them explore in their own way. My district has already supplied everything but the technology part of the sandbox. The students and I have been looking forward to having this lab since January but was told in March that the technology that the district has will not be able to work. Please help my students have this amazing tool and be able to continue to use it for years to come.
