Our school is home to over 300 elementary students who are in grades K-6th. Our students are creative and enjoy a variety of hands-on activities. As a computer teacher, my ultimate goal is to inspire students to reach for greatness by being resilient and tenacious, which are important skills to achieving academic achievement. To continue to inspire students, I am requesting funding for the 2021 summer Professional Development workshop called Pathfinders Summer Institute. The program is typically in Bloomington, Indiana but this year, it will be held virtually. In a virtual setting, it would mean a great deal to provide professional development funding support for me to attend the 2021 summer Chibitronics workshop as part of Pathfinders. I will use the knowledge and skills gained to support students as they create their own Chibitronics project, in the form of an accordion book with small LED (light emitting diode) lights attached. For students who do not see a connection of Physical science to their personal lives, this project will hopefully change their mind. The goal is to have students create in-school or virtual home-based projects that merge science and technology within the technology or science curriculum. Thank you for your time and consideration as you consider funding this professional development experience.
