As my students have been out of school for more than a year now, they have all been expressing a desire to return to in-person school as soon as possible and, like many students across the country, they have grown fatigued by having to engage digitally. As we are now talking about how to return to school in the coming months, I want to be able to provide a way to engage physically with computer science. My students have expressed massive interest in 3D printing, and I think that being able to provide a hands-on and captivating project will make the return to in-person school even more exciting. 3D Design allows students to blend digital fabrication with a tangible output that stands out in computer science as blurring the lines between the physical and virtual world. As students are coming back to a physical engagement with school after over a year of engaging virtually, I think that this project is both relevant and captivating, while also providing a way to step away from computers, even during computer science.
