As a new elementary librarian, I would like to explore STEM activities with my students, kindergarten through fourth grade. STEM is an approach to learning and development that integrates the areas of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Through STEM, students develop key skills including: problem solving, creativity, critical analysis, teamwork, independent thinking, initiative, communication, and digital literacy. To get started, I would love to have all of this wonderful literature at my fingertips. As the new librarian, I would like to have all students in my elementary school explore the amazing world of STEM every week they visit the library. During their time in the library, they would listen to me read one of these fantastic pieces of literature, then they would all have time to problem solve and explore with a hands-on STEM activity.
