All students that would participate in this project are from a public elementary school in Wisconsin. This particular school has a student population of over 700 students and is extremely diverse. My position in the school is a Bilingual Resource Teacher. I support roughly 70 students that are learning English. The specific group that would benefit from this project would be my 20-5th graders. All of these students are extremely intelligent, as most of them are nearly proficient in both English and Spanish. Each day they are provided literacy in both Spanish and English, science in English, and math in Spanish. It is quite amazing to watch them switch their brains to the language being instructed in. Most of the students come from struggling backgrounds where at times, they are the adults in the home. Often, their parents have less education than they do and are required to translate and become the voice for the family. They truly amaze me and what they have already accomplished!
