These well-written, diverse books will continue to foster my student's love of reading and stimulate many meaningful conversations. I always strive to add books to my classroom library that I know my students will love. I know how important it is to include books that can act as both windows and mirrors, allowing them to see into someone else's life/perspective and reflect on themselves and their life experiences. All of these books have been chosen with my students in mind- their interests, diverse backgrounds, and personal experiences.
With these new books, my students will be able to have many rich, meaningful conversations with their peers and foster relationships through this common experience. Many important connections can be made through stories and my students will be able to challenge and inspire their peers with their experiences and perspective. My students all genuinely respect each other and I believe that a lot can be gained from these types of purposeful discussions. This project will help enrich not only their reading skills but their ability to understand and empathize with others.
