My Latino English Language learners are as young as kindergarten to 5th grade. There are 50 in total. Some of them have parents who do not speak English. Most come from families where reading and writing is not part of their daily routine. Many do not live within walking distance from the public library, and in our small town, most of the materials are in English anyway. These children have a love for learning just like their English-only peers, yet they get behind due to lack of literacy in the home and a lack of resources.
