The materials listed in this project will help my students perform essential job skills from the safety of their middle school. My class focuses on life skills and building experiences that mimic life throughout the community. By practicing these skills, my students will feel more comfortable looking for a job one day. Beyond job skills, this project will allow my students to practice following directions, moving safely throughout the school, and interacting with less familiar adults. This project would give my students the ability to build a sense of community within their school. They will get to build relationships with more teachers and students by operating their coffee cart throughout our hallways. Due to Covid restrictions, my students have not been able to participate in as many school wide functions simply because they are not happening this year. But more than just pep-rallies, my students are missing out on social skills practice that helps them navigate their world. By operating a coffee cart this coming school year, my students will be able to resume practicing those skills throughout our school building. I want my students to feel like they play an important role in this school and continue to interact with the many adults and peers that care about them.
