Not only do we work on basics reading skills, but I also teach students how to take tests. Most do not have prior knowledge, so all skills must be taught for grades 3-5 students in my classroom. Vocabulary is essential in order to read and comprehend, so a great deal of emphasis is being placed here in the materials I have chosen. These materials will meet the challenge and and will be on a level that is challenging, but also will lead to power. My students wish to succeed, work hard, and enjoy the excitement which comes from their success. My students will be using the requested materials as a warm up for each day. This will be a quick review of sight words, vocabulary, grammar, and reading comprehension as students are all one to two grades below grade level, and these materials will work for all of my students. It is a form of daily practice. The goal is that all of this will lead to better understanding of reading in all subject areas. We can do a lot in 30 minutes. Their academic achievement should improve. Even though my students come from troubled homes or live on limited incomes, they want to be better. I'm the one to do that job.
