As a new Project LIT chapter (a nationwide grassroots literacy community increasing access to high quality, high interest, & diverse books), our high school group aspires to provide opportunities to read & discuss amazing books for each of the schools in our district (1 high, 2 middle, & 4 elementary). We plan to create Little LIT Libraries (Project LIT collections) within each school to ensure access to books that will cultivate understanding & encourage courageous conversations. We have just been awarded an amazing & generous grant to provide the books we need to get all 7 Little LIT Libraries started! Now we need a mobile cart for each school so that the book collections will be easy to access for students and teachers (we hope to start with the HS & 2 MS carts). In addition to providing the books for reading, our high school students will create book promotion materials to garner interest and plan meeting opportunities at the other schools in order to serve as leaders for the younger students by hosting book talks & activities to coordinate with the books.
