Over the past year, students have been forced to learn through Learning Management Systems such as Schoology and Canva, and along with social media, gaming, and miscellaneous screentime, the joy of reading books for pleasure has unfortunately dwindled. I'm trying to combat that by offering new and interesting titles in our school library collection. The average publication year of our nonfiction holdings is 1996 (Yikes), and I have already weeded some! Providing students with nonfiction choices that are current, appealing, and on their level will encourage them to read books more. When I receive new books, I showcase them on my webpage or do a booktalk with classes, so these titles will surely circulate as soon as I can catalog them!
