It is very important that students have the opportunity to read books that reflect the diversity of the world around them. This helps them develop empathy and understanding. It is also equally important for students to read about characters that mirror their own lives and experiences. There is nothing like the joy in a student's eyes when they point to a picture in a book and say, "Look, it's me!" Especially when they haven't seen books before that have characters like them in it. These books will help them have that moment and help their classmates to read about lives different yet similar to their own.

About my class
