In addition to teaching my students HOW to read, I hope to inspire and nurture a LOVE for reading! This is best achieved through being read out loud to, and through the availability of a wide range of easily accessible, high-interest, quality books. Every day after lunch, I do a read-aloud, where I model the joy of selecting a book and just reading for pleasure. I often borrow books but want to build a class library that the students have access to daily and can reread their favorites over and over again. With over half my class being EL learners and from diverse socioeconomic levels, having books in the home is not a privilege many have. For the LOVE of BOOKS! Help me enrich my learning environment by ensuring my students return from distance learning in a few weeks, to a classroom rich in literature with books galore! Help me fill a shelf or two with new books to read and explore.
