I would love to develop a more diverse classroom library and allow my students more voice and choice in their daily reading. As many are readers who struggle, I feel an even greater need for them to see themselves in their books and to connect to the characters' experiences. The reading level is appropriate for many of my students and the books' topics are relevant to their lives. Many of my students never pick up a book and read outside of my classroom. I want to change that and help students develop their skills, connect with experiences both similar and different from their own, and foster a love (or even a like) of reading.
