In our English Language Arts class, one of the most important things is getting students matched with books they love to read. Finding the right book for a kid is a magical experience. Kids that tell me they hate reading change how they see themselves in school when they find a book that reflects their experience and speaks to them. As such, our curriculum is centered around kids reading and analyzing independent choice books. With your donation, I can fortify my classroom library with books that my kids want to read and that reflect and honor who they are. Too often, my multilingual and racially diverse learners are faced with books that are whitewashed or largely written by White authors. Moreover, my largely virtual students need books I can send home and not worry about having returned. Having exhausted my personal classroom library handing them out to students to read at home, I turned to DonorsChoose.org to revive my classroom library. I have selected a wide array of texts that I believe reflect who my students are and what they are interested in.
