These materials will help make my classroom a lot more functional and convenient in order to maximize learning and engagement. We need small stools for when I do small group instruction during reading and math rotations. The sand timers will be used in small groups to help students to keep students on task and develop their understanding of time limits. Material caddies will also provide groups organization for small group work and trays will be used to turn in their group work at their table. Also, in order to prevent excessive waste, I want to begin laminating worksheet activities for my reading and math rotations and I need a laminator and sheets to do so. The tools being ordered will streamline processes/routines so that more time can be used to focus on academics. Additionally, some of the materials are being used to create an environment that is welcoming and comforting which has been proven by research to facilitate learning. The sofa sack will provide another place to read in my reading corner. Also, fluorescent light covers will make the lighting in my room a lot less harsh. Last but not least, some other materials will be utilized as part of formative and summative assessments. I want to introduce DIY projects like creating badges/pins, as well as collaged patches that are based off of literature we are covering in class. These accessories will be added to their ever-developing book bag we are making out of an old shirt. To introduce first person narratives, the students will be writing a short story called, "A Day in the Life of a Lollipop" so I want to incentivize their writing with lollipops from the lollipop tree.
