Most of the students that I teach are on free or reduced lunch and can't afford to buy a calculator that costs more than 100 dollars. Because, some of the technology is too expensive for them to afford they have downloaded free apps on their phones. We can use the phone app during class or when they are at home doing their assignments. However, they can't take their phones when they need to do standardized testing or if they don't have a phone or during a test if I can't watch their phone screens. By not having enough calculators for my students it is handicapping them on their state testing and their ACT.
