The items chosen for this project are critical to the success of our classroom as carpets, room dividers, and furniture will help to divide the space into specific learning areas for students. My intention for my beautiful, new classroom is to arrange it in such a way that it provides a calming, nature-inspired setting for my students to learn and grow each day. Choosing Earth tones, cool blues, and materials that reflect sustainability was done very intentionally as I find them more grounding and less overly-stimulating to the senses. The carpets will help to provide a soft place to land and play with toys while absorbing the sound for our children with sensory differences. Likewise, the tent will be part of a quiet, safe space in which children can enjoy the sights and sounds of nature while calming their bodies. The room dividers will block out distractions when students are working in their individual work stations or participating in circle time. This will help our classroom staff provide the small group instruction that is essential to my students' learning and development. The tables will be used to create a wall of standing work stations. I believe that preschoolers should be given flexible seating options, and for some, that means standing rather than sitting to do work. Research shows that we tend to see more engagement and independence when children are given the option to stand. If you choose to donate to this project, these materials will help me create the varied learning spaces that are essential in my Early Childhood Special Education Classroom.
