Our music curriculum has a ukulele unit that has to be skipped every year due to lack of classroom instruments. Ukuleles are an effective way to incorporate modern music into the classroom, and help harbor a personal interest in music. With a classroom set of ukuleles, our class could fully utilize our curriculum as well as learn to play music in a group, write and play chords, and create their own music for this instrument. By sparking an interest in music using instruments students see being used in music they've already heard, they can find the inspiration to make music outside of the classroom, as well as pick up a skill they can take with them when they leave my class!
