These books will continue to help build my classroom library with diverse and high interest picture books. Reading books aloud to my 1st graders is crucial. Read alouds help students with phonemic awareness, help students dive deeper into different lessons, and help students gain empathy and confidence. I intentionally chose books that reflect my students’ backgrounds and cultures. I found books that will leave a lasting impression and inspire even if they are just flipped through for the pictures in our library. I also chose books that focus on social and emotional learning, and feelings such as anxiety and worry. My hope is these books help students connect to themselves, others, and inspire them to learn more about the community around them.
