My goal as a Chemistry Teacher is to help students understand the real-world applications of the science they are learning. Students can learn about the natural and chemical processes that aquariums going through with having an aquatic environment. Some aquarium projects will be used for teaching about pH (acidity and base levels) and why keeping pH levels balanced is important. Students will also learn and interact with the natural processes that aquatic life goes through, such as the removal of Ammonia, Nitrates, and Nitrites, all of which are chemicals commonly discussed within the classroom. In addition to allowing students to see chemical processes at work, aquariums offer a natural and calming aesthetic that promotes student learning in the classroom.
