Track and Field athletes usually run. A lot. They build endurance, strength, and speed through various workouts. But different tools can enhance their workouts, and can work muscles that can improve their event performance. The items in this grant allow our middle school endurance athletes to strengthen and train different muscle groups through weighted medicine balls, leg bands, and ladders. The equipment would be used in rotation drills with coaches at each station helping them perform the movements correctly and efficiently for the greatest skill development. Often runners are undeveloped in one or more areas of the body due to the extensive focus on running. When athletes work on form, weighted movements, and performance drills, they improve coordination, increase muscle memory, and become a well-rounded athlete, ready to handle their next Track and Field meet!
