I encourage my students to be life-long learners, and, as a teacher, I know that I will forever be learning and continuing to grow. With the challenges of the pandemic and students not being able to receive the same quality of instruction for almost a year now, the needs of my students are going to grow. I must continue to learn and increase my understanding of the best ways to support them. These materials will enhance my ability to provide effective and meaningful instruction in the areas of reading and writing. I will incorporate the strategies I learn from the two professional development books into my instruction as well as share this information with my fellow special educator and classroom teachers. I will use the match/sort game and the close-readers activity as centers during my lessons to provide a more engaging method of practicing skills.
