My current students are in second grade and they are all English Language Learners. What this means is that all my students have another first language and English is their second language. My students need all the help they can get in attaining new books to read at home for practice. My whole class is excited to read and are anxious to always start a new book. Our school is a Chicago Public School and the current free-reduced lunch rate is in the high 90's. All the books they take home are from my library and most children do not have the money to buy their own books or libraries. Another factor that is slowing us down in reading more books is that we do not have library as a resource this year. This means that they do not have access to the school library this year to check out books, since we are such a big school. I have 30 students in my classroom and I have a small library choice.
