Currently, my students are feeling isolated by learning at home. These sixth graders should have been attending a new school, but instead, they have been learning from home. While many have intrinsic motivation through grades on their report cards, others need an extrinsic motivator. These are different times. As remote teachers, we are unable to provide rewards such as going outside or class parties. We are unable to even reward students with a smile because we have masks on our faces. These ribbons, certificates, and other prizes will provide the motivating force that will encourage all students to complete their assignments and give them a sense of accomplishment and pride in their work.
