As a school social worker, I am the first go-to for parents and teachers when it comes to helping their students navigate challenges in their lives. Sometimes those challenges look like everyday struggles like a kiddo who is lying a lot or showing signs of anxiety. Sometimes they look at a recent divorce or illness in the family.
Regardless of the type of issue, every family and kid can use a little extra help.
Children's books have long been the source of relatable education for kids. Alexander taught us that they have bad days, even in Australia. Frances showed us that even bread and jam gets old after awhile. And Lily and beloved Mr. Slinger taught us that every time we wake up it's a chance for a new start.
This year, I launched the parent library for our preschool and transitional kindergarten families to be able to confidentially check out books related to their concerns. Parents have steadily been checking out books for our variety of topics [anxiety, friendship skills, separation/incarceration/divorce, emotional regulation, death and illness, sibling rivalry, etc] but unfortunately, our needs have met the limits of our budget.
The additional books listed below would help fill categories not yet available and round out others that have proven to be very needed. Your generous donation will immediately go to our library shelves and home with students in need of their valuable lessons.
Thank you for considering our project!
