Students need actual books in their hands to develop their beginning reading skills. Students will be able to pick some high-interest books from the classroom. Other books will be chosen by the teacher so students can work on some targeted phonics skills. These books will then be sent home to students so they can read them to family members. Getting students' families more involved in daily reading is proven to aid in students becoming proficient readers. At the beginning of each new week, the books will be returned and students will be able choose new books.
