Students are only allowed to visit the library once a week. I want to make sure coming to the library is a fun and enriching experience for each student. Along with book check out and the option to read, I want students to be able to play different board and card games.
My idea is to have game days in the library where students have a choice of board and card games to play together in small groups. I want to teach them how to play different card and board games (as needed) and allow them to play together in groups of 2-4 students to help generate a healthy competition. I feel that students need a safe place to play and compete and learn how to win and lose gracefully. I also want them to have a place to come to have some fun- I do not think the library is always the place for just silence.
I feel like card and board games are learning in disguise- students will be using reasoning skills, simple computation, even spelling while playing board and card games- they will be practicing skills and learning in a fun way.
