Since the pandemic, we are limited to certain activities during Physical Education classes to introduce to our students. Because our department is determined to offer a variety of options, we wanted to purchase snowshoes for our students that love being outdoors and can get some fresh air while having fun exercising. Our school is next door to the University of Connecticut, where there are hiking trails to show our kids the amazing winter scenery. Along with hiking, we can teach our students outdoor education strategies such as proper clothing or survival tips during the winter all while being outside. In addition, we will have team building exercises such as fort building and snowman contests. Having these cooperative activities will help enhance problem solving, which is a vital skill needed when our students branch out into the real-world settings. Being stuck inside all day on zoom or in a classroom has become such a stressful environment for our students, as I am sure many of you educators can relate! By having snow shoes will alleviate students with high anxiety and give our kiddos a break from screen time. It says that this project will reach 999 students. However, Donors Choose caps off the number at 999. In reality, we have over 1,200 students at our High School. So if you choose to donate to our project, you will be reaching out to all students at our school because everyone will have the opportunity to use this amazing equipment.
