Bike Desks ~ I am on a mission to involve my students in the early benefits of exercise to increase academic and behavior performances. I invested in an under-desk elliptical at the beginning of the school year and found that students that use the machine while learning seemed calmer and more focused. Trauma-informed research tells us that exercise promotes brain plasticity by stimulating growth of new connectors between cells in the important parts of our brain. Research also tells us that physical activity can improve academic achievement and reduce symptoms of anxiety. Active bodies create stronger minds! The pedal desks will be used to release energy, maintain focus and grow new connectors! I would like to add two bike desks to my desk elliptical with hopes of adding more classroom equipment each year. This grant aligns with all six Journey of a Graduate skills in Warren and also removes barriers to learning while supporting our whole child. These kinesthetic tools will help meet the needs of a variety of students and improve overall mental and physical health for many days to come. The 2 pieces of equipment will be used during instruction and independent work all day, every day to positively impact my student's lives.
