I read these classic stories every year in my Kindergarten class, but have never had the storytelling pieces to bring it to life. The stories stretch to fit so many different learning opportunities both in social-emotional and academic skills. For example, "Rainbow Fish" teaches the important lesson of being a good friend and including others and helps in understanding story elements of character/setting, order of events, and plot. "Brown Bear, Brown Bear" is packed with sight words and predictable text to build student confidence and fluency skills. These kits will strengthen story comprehension and language skills for all my students, but especially for my ELL students. Students will be encouraged to use the story pieces in small groups or independently during classroom stations. We can retell the story whole-group, as well, after an initial read aloud. It will enhance the joy and love of reading that these classic stories already bring!
