During this unprecedented time and pandemic, our students have suffered greatly both academically and socially. My students miss playing with each other, doing sports, and just spending time with each other. Even though we cannot have school team sports right now, my students do get four ten-minute mask breaks outside. When they go outside right now, they just walk around because there is nothing to do. I still want them to be able to have fun with their classmates and improve upon their social skills. Since being out of school, beginning in March of 2020, my students have declined in social skills. They lost time with friends, both in person for extracurricular activities as well as in class at school. Now that we have 12 kids in class a day at half compacity, many don't speak up in class or interact. I am hoping with this project, we can start teambuilding activities on break, be more active than just sitting in the classroom on devices, and build upon the social skills I know that the students need help expressing with. Students will able to create groups, engage in socially distant games, and work as a team during their breaks with this equipment. My students have also missed many in-person lessons due to this pandemic. The easel and materials I am requesting will allow for students to create interactive ELA/SS stations and organized notebooks full of notes that are colorful and engaging. I want to give all my students the resources they need to be productive and successful while helping out the ones who truly need it. The benefits of this project will be to improve the students' social skills due to COVID and having resources that will support their learning.
