To truly engage with science, students need hands-on learning experiences. Creating ecocolumns allows students to build and monitor their own ecosystems. This months-long projects allows students to create an entire mini-ecosystem, complete with freshwater plants and animals. Using critical thinking skills, problem solving, and collaboration, students will start with just bottles and substrate, and gradually move into more complex ecological relationships. They will record data and make observations for several months, with the goal of creating a self-sustaining ecosystems. They will see the Carbon and Nitrogen cycles, symbiotic relationships, and learn about soil science as they build their eco-columns. We would love if you could be part of providing my students with this wonderful learning experience!
