The pandemic, especially with minorities and low-income households, shortchanged many students in academic readiness. I teach at a Title I school and many students are limited to resources and support to help them achieve academic success. My students are overcoming obstacles and need learning materials that include hands-on activities. Many of them lack simple supplies such as crayons, pencils, and homework folders. The pandemic took a great toll on my kids and their families. The language barrier created a challenge for students and parents during distance learning. The majority of them qualify for free lunch. Some are from single-parent homes and many are from homes where there are limited resources. The use of centers will help students work in areas targeted to improve learning deficiencies and apply what they have learned in whole group. These centers are engaging, stem-related, and include activities to help close the achievement gap. The seat pockets will eliminate wasted time before participating in centers. The literacy center will include the multi-purpose headphones and multi-cultural books with main characters who look like them. The magnetic builders will help students form 3-D shapes and create stem-related constructions. Additionally, the school-to-home organizers will keep the learning going outside the classroom by providing at-home activities for parents to assist their child's learning.
