Virtual learning is tough for all students, but it is especially difficult for students with disabilities. As a special education teacher, it is important that my lessons run smoothly and that I can see all of the students' faces, which provide valuable feedback about their understanding. With a single monitor, I must constantly rearrange tabs and often miss when a student is raising their hand to answer or showing signs that they would benefit from a break. With two screens, I will be able to navigate through my lessons while simultaneously watching their faces for important visual cues. I rely on these visual cues in order to act in real time, whether it means slowing down a bit, explaining a different way, or answering a question. When this is delayed because I can't see all of the students on one screen while projecting the lesson, I lose valuable time, and this sometimes results in frustration for the kids. Because virtual learning relies on technology, and technology alone can be frustrating, it is important that I minimize anxiety to any extent possible. A second monitor will make this possible.
