Due to Covid-19 scholars have experience social-emotional trauma due to quarantine. Scholars are returning to school with increased anxiety and have not had access to social-emotional guidance other than online resources. Returning to school is a big adjustment and scholars need a space that keeps them safe from Covid-19 and their social-emotional well-being. Currently, carpets and bean bags are not allowed, and scholars need a comfortable space that meets Covid-19 protocols to deescalate, without a cozy area scholars would only have access to a tile floor. The de-escalation room currently does not have windows, overhead fluorescent lights sometimes over stimulates a scholar to further increase behaviors. LED lighting that I am able to adjust particularly by color will help provide an environment that is soothing to regulate themselves. An essential oil diffuser will also help in soothing scholars and has been proven to increase relaxation, a sound machine is vital due to scholar sharing vulnerable information and it can also help scholars practice some meditative practices. I'm requesting easy to clean material that will keep all scholars safe!
