Help! My students hate non-fiction! Why? Because the majority of the non-fiction reading they do in school is through science and social studies textbooks. Most of the reading they do in English classes throughout their school years is fictional literature. Despite the fact that research has shown that teen boys overall tend to prefer non-fiction, none of them are picking these books out in the library! Teen boys and girls looking for information seek it out online instead of through a credible, non-fiction book. Together, we can change this and expose students to meaningful, inspiring information through non-fiction books they can't find in their school's libraries.
