My students are East Harlem residents with a desire to succeed in life. They work extremely hard in all subject areas. Though the school population mostly consist of minority students living beneath the poverty level, my students work as if they are wealthy (Even though only 4 of the 24 students have a computer in their home). They have a strong desire to learn, and are always thinking of ways to improve themselves. And so am I. Twenty-four students, twenty-four characters and twenty-four personal experiences to work with everyday. Some days are better than others, but all days are full of experiences. Writing about their experiences gives them and outlet. It allows them to release and share what is on their mind and what they have gone through. Counselors are often called to address issues that adolescences experience. And through all of those issues, the desire to learn continues to fulfill them. I am rewarded daily as I watch their desires grow.
