My special education students are responsible for the class pet. They feed her and change the bedding each week. When they are feeling overwhelmed, they are able to sit and talk to her or hold her to calm down. My students earn work hours for these skills and learn how to be responsible. They make sure she has clean water and fresh vegetables each day. Even when the kid are virtual, we offer afternoon support sessions for the kids to receive tutoring and work hours. They use part of these work hours to care for the guinea pig.
