I am a 3rd grade math teacher to 52 students who are 100% in person learning. My students sit behind shields with masks on, unable to do group projects or share materials. It has been a tough year to keep them engaged and excited about Math. We recently went to 1:1 IPads and I have been introducing more technology into their class time. A class favorite is Jamboards where each student is given their own slide to solve a word problem. I can see live their thinking process while remaining socially distanced for everyone’s safety. Their excitement during problem solving is contagious! I recently had students fill out an evaluation about technology in math class and students were 100% in favor of technology over worksheets. I can screenshot a worksheet onto Jamboard and have them fill it out and just by taking that extra step they are more engaged. The only frustration I have heard is “my finger is too fat to fit the answers in the provided space". Because we can’t share materials for the sake of safety, I have to run 3x as many copies as usual going through a lot of paper which I despise. Utilizing technology more eliminates that as students can submit their assignments through canvas. Having Apple Pencils in my classroom will be a game changer. Thank you!
