As a teacher, I stand. I stand not only as an advocate and guide for my students, I am a person who rarely is seated. The modern classroom may be unrecognizable to those who haven't ventured into one in the past 20 years. Much has changed. Students are seated in groups, there are learning stations throughout the room and the teacher is visiting these areas throughout the day. In March 2020, everything changed. Overnight, my classroom went virtual. No longer could I stand beside a student to view their progress, they sent it through the internet. Instead of walking over to my students measuring liquids for a math assignment, I was demonstrating how to measure a beaker through Zoom. As a very physical person, I regularly exercise with my students. I would like to continue to move by standing at my school work station. I believe I will boost my energy and productivity and the students as well. I trust this will inspire my students to stand and move more as well throughout the learning day.
