What a better way to get students engaged in person and virtually over a period of time than to hatch Mallard Duck eggs! The students at Sandusky Elementary have not had hands-on opportunities to observe, interact, and study wildlife; especially during a global pandemic! Not only is this an opportunity for science integration, but also writing, reading, engagement, and social emotional learning for all grade levels. The time of year is perfect as the duck incubation period is 28-32 days. They would reach their ‘peak’ age around spring time. This would allow ample opportunity for students to get outside, get away from the screens, and explore the lifecycle of birds. Virtual students would also have the ability to tune into the progress and growth of the duck via a virtual link and a live stream camera. Lastly, all students would be able to experience this fun and educational experience.
